Workshop 2: GESIS

Workshop 2: GESIS: ›Unlocking Digital Behavioral Data: New Frontiers in Web Tracking and App-Based Social Science Research‹

22.09.2025, 13-16 Uhr

In the ›post-API‹ era, researchers relying on web-based observational data increasingly face challenges as traditional access points diminish. However, these shifts also present opportunities to innovate and develop new strategies for data collection in computational social science.

This workshop introduces participants to cutting-edge tools and innovative methodologies for user-centric data collection. It will showcase GESIS’ AppKit mobile surveying and web tracking services, and demonstrate how these can be combined with traditional survey methods utilizing the GESIS Panel.dbd Digital Behavioral Data Sample to create richer datasets.

The workshop will include a keynote lecture on foundational concepts and practical examples, an interactive session, and an open discussion on best practices and emerging trends. The workshop is designed for researchers interested in bridging the gap between traditional and modern data collection techniques in computational social science. No prior experience with web tracking or app-based data is required.
